Peru and the Pan American region are mourning the untimely passing of talented badminton player Bruno Monteverde last week in his home city, Lima.
A former South American and Pan Am junior champion who has also represented Peru in the biennial Thomas Cup, Monteverde was killed in an accident while driving. The national team member was 21 years old.
“We are all stunned by this unexpected news. Bruno was a very promising player and this is a great loss for us in Peru,” said German Valdez, Development Director for Badminton Pan Am.
Monteverde, who was recovering from knee surgery, was expected to make a comeback soon.
The Badminton World Federation would like to express sympathy to Monteverde’s family and friends, especially those in the badminton community.
