Canada and Brazil set up a title clash in the XX Pan American Badminton Championships Team Event yesterday beating Jamaica and Peru respectively.
Canada, who topped Group A, faced Jamaica, runners-up in Group B, and comprehensively outclassed their opponents 3-0. Mixed Doubles pair Nyl Yakura/Brittney Tam gave Canada the lead, taking just 21 minutes to get past Anthony Mcnee/Mikaylia Haldane 21-7 21-12.
Jason Ho-Shue (featured image) took two minutes longer in his rout of Dennis Coke (21-9 21-12) in Men’s Singles, before Brittney Tam returned for her Women’s Singles against Katherine Wynter. Tam eased past Wynter 21-15 21-10 to seal the tie for Canada.
Peru struck first blood against Brazil when Daniela Macias Brandes stopped Samia Lima 21-17 21-15 in Women’s Singles.
However, Ygor Coelho de Oliveira restored parity beating Bruno Barrueto Deza 21-9 21-5 in Men’s Singles. Samia Lima made amends for her loss by combining with Luana Vicente in Women’s Doubles and overcoming Daniela Macias/Danica Nishimura 21-17 21-18.
Hugo Arthuso/Daniel Paiola sealed the tie for Brazil in Men’s Doubles with a 21-10 21-10 result over Bruno Barrueto Deza/Diego Subauste Tokumura.
Earlier, in the match for 5th place, USA beat Chile 3-2.
