Korea’s Lee Jang Mi qualified for the Women’s Singles main draw winning both her Group D matches at the Badminton Asia Championships 2017 in Wuhan yesterday.
The Korean (featured image) first beat Jordan’s Domou Amro 21-6 21-8 before overcoming Malaysia’s Lee Ying Ying 21-19 21-13 to book a first round place against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara.
Other Women’s Singles qualifiers included Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Linh – who will face top seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei; Sarah Joy Barredo (Philippines), who takes on Japan’s Aya Ohori; and Iran’s Soraya Aghaeihajiagha of Iran, who will face Malaysia’s Soniia Cheah.
In Men’s Singles, Singapore’s Ryan Ng qualified from Group C winning both his matches. Ng beat Nepal’s Ratnajit Tamang 21-12 21-13 and Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Panarin 21-10 21-10. Ng’s first round opponent will be Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk. Other qualifiers included Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto, Sri Lanka’s Niluka Karunaratne and Philippines’s Ros Leonard Pedrosa.
Vietnam’s Do Tuan Duc/Pham Hong Nam qualified from Group D of Men’s Doubles. The Vietnamese beat Uzbekistan’s Amrullo Bakhshullaev/Artyom Savatyugin and Philippines’s Carlos Antonie Cayanan/Philip Joper Escueta to book a first round against Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan/Rian Agung Saputro.
Hong Kong’s Ho Wai Lun/Tam Chun Hei also qualified, topping Group C. Sri Lanka’s Sachin Dias/Buwenaka Goonathileka and Nepal’s Dipesh Dhami/Ratnajit Tamang were the other qualifiers.
In Women’s Doubles, Sri Lanka’s Achini Ratnasiri/Upuli Samanthika Weerasinghe (Group A); Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Yu Chieh/Hu Ling Fang (Group B); Hong Kong’s Ng Wing Yung/Yuen Sin Ying (Group C) and Singapore’s Ong Ren-Ne/Crystal Wong (Group D) ensured their qualification.
Mixed Doubles qualifiers included: Sachin Dias/Thilini Pramodika Hendahewa (Sri Lanka); Bahaedeen Ahmad Alshannik/Domou Amro (Jordan); Pham Hong Nam/Le Thu Huyen (Vietnam) and Danny Bawa Chrisnanta/Crystal Wong (Singapore).
