Lino Munoz won both his singles and Mixed Doubles matches at the XXI Pan American Championships 2017 yesterday in Havana.
Mexico’s Munoz (featured image) beat Peru’s Daniel La Torre Regal 21-17 21-11 to enter the third round of Men’s Singles. Munoz then teamed up with Cynthia Gonzalez and beat Guatemala’s Anibal Marroquin/Diana Corleto Soto 21-10 23-21 to make the quarter-finals in Mixed Doubles.
Elsewhere in the Mixed Doubles draw, USA’s Mathew Fogarty/Isabel Zhong recovered from a first game loss to beat Dominican Republic’s Angel Argenis Marinez Ulloa/Bermary Altagracia Polanco Munoz 18-21 21-10 21-18. Next up for the Americans is William Cabrera/Licelott Sanchez, also of the Dominican Republic.
In Men’s Singles, Munoz faces Cuba’s Leodannis Martinez. Most of the top contenders, including top seed Ygor Coelho (Brazil), second seed Bjorn Seguin (USA), Howard Shu (USA) and Osleni Guerrero (Cuba) secured their place in the third round.
Women’s Singles top seed Michelle Li (Canada) was a comfortable winner over Mexico’s Haramara Gaitan (21-12 21-17), and will face compatriot Brittney Tam in the quarter-finals.
Third seed Nairoby Abigail Jimenez (Dominican Republic) will take on USA’s Jamie Subandhi, while Mexico’s Sabrina Solis faces second seed Rachel Honderich (Canada).
