Rachel Honderich made two finals at the XXI Pan American Championships 2017 yesterday with victories in Women’s Singles and Mixed Doubles.
The Canadian (featured image) beat Mexico’s Mariana Ugalde in the Women’s Singles semi-finals before pairing up with Toby Ng to beat Peru’s Mario Cuba/Katherine Winder 21-13 21-8. Two others also gave themselves a chance for a double – Honderich’s compatriots Brittney Tam and Nyl Yakura.
The Women’s Singles final will be an all-Canadian encounter as Tam beat USA’s Jamie Subandhi in the other semi-final. Tam will also face Honderich in the Mixed Doubles as she and Nyl Yakura overcame Mexico’s Lino Munoz/Cynthia Gonzalez 21-16 21-16 in the other semi-final.
Men’s Singles will be a clash between top seed Ygor Coelho de Oliveira (Brazil) and Cuba’s Osleni Guerrero. Both had straightforward wins – while Oliveira outclassed Cuba’s Leodannis Martinez 21-6 21-18, Guerrero was just as comfortable against USA’s Bjorn Seguin, 21-14 21-13.
Women’s Doubles will feature Canada’s Michelle Tong/Josephine Wu against Peru’s Daniela Macias/Danica Nishimura, while Men’s Doubles will be an all-Canadian battle between Jason Anthony Ho-Shue/Nyl Yakura and Austin James Bauer/Ty Alexander Lindeman.
