Thailand’s Amnouy Wetwithan was the most successful player at the FZ Forza Irish Para-Badminton International held in Dublin recently with three gold medals.
The Thai (featured image, centre right) won the Women’s Singles WH 2 category over Spain’s Esther Torres, adding to her two doubles titles at the June 20-25 event. Wetwithan combined with Sujirat Pookkham in Women’s Doubles (WH 1 – WH 2) and with Jakarin Homhaul in Mixed Doubles (WH1 – WH 2)
Korea’s Kim Kyung Hoon and Lee Sam Seop, and France’s Lucas Mazur were also successful, taking home two gold medals each.
Kim Kyung Hoon and Lee Sam Seop won the Men’s Doubles (WH 1 – WH 2) category beating Chan Ho Yuen (Hong Kong) and Thomas Wandscheider (Germany) in the final. Kim prevailed in the Men’s Singles WH 2 category over Chan Ho Yuen, while Lee Sam Seop emerged champion in the Men’s Singles WH 1 category beating France’s David Toupe.
France’s Lucas Mazur won the Men’s Singles SL 4 beating Thailand’s Siripong Teamarrom and the Men’s Doubles (with Mathieu Thomas) in the SL 3 – SL 4 category, over Germany’s Jan-Niklas Pott/Pascal Wolter.
England’s Rachel Choong won two gold and an exhibition event. Choong won the Women’s Singles SS 6 category over doubles partner Rebecca Bedford; she teamed up with Bedford for the SS 6 exhibition match, in which they beat Scotland’s Deidre Nagle and USA’s Katherine Valli. Choong also won the Mixed Doubles SS 6 category with Andrew Martin; the pair beat England’s teammates Oliver Clarke/Rebecca Bedford.
Other winners included Singapore’s Tay Wei Ming (Men’s Singles SU 5); India’s Nitesh Kumar (Men’s Singles SL 3); Switzerland’s Karin Suter-Erath (Women’s Singles WH 1); Meril Loquette (France)/ David Jack Wilson (Wales); Hong Kong’s Man Kai Chu/Chun Yim Wong (Men’s Doubles SS 6 + Women’s Doubles SS 6) and Germany’s Katrin Seibert (Women’s Singles SL 4+SU 5).
