Badminton in USA Gets Boost
A Shuttle Time session in progress.

USA Badminton (USAB) has taken the step to introduce the BWF Shuttle Time Schools Programme and BWF Coach Certification Programme throughout the United States.

Given the comprehensive resources available within both programmes, the initiative is expected to provide a boost to the development of badminton in the region as part of the long-term build up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Shuttle Time uses various tools to build basic skills in young participants.

Several coaches had approached USAB in recent months seeking assistance to enhance their skills.

The online component of the BWF Level 1 Coach Certification Programme is free of charge and is open to all members of USAB.

After successful completion of the online component, an in-person assessment will be conducted by a BWF certified instructor for certification as BWF Level 1 Coach.

USAB Interim CEO Linda French said: “Fortunately, the first part of the BWF course can be taken online, and we intend to introduce the required in-person seminars throughout the United States as soon as possible.”

Shuttle Time offers school teachers access to free resources, training and equipment, which support the teaching of enjoyable, safe and inclusive badminton activities to children aged 5-15 years old.

With the addition of USAB, Shuttle Time is now being implemented in 138 countries.

BWF Development Director Ian Wright welcomed the initiatives by USAB.

“We expect that the rollout of BWF’s coach education and Shuttle Time programmes in the USA will lead to enhanced quality of coaching at the grassroots level.

“It will also provide USAB with the opportunity to create an ecosystem of high-quality coaches in the US for the foreseeable future.”
