Badminton World Federation (BWF) can confirm that three players have been withdrawn from the Orleans Masters 2021 after one player and one team entourage member tested positive for COVID-19.
An Indonesian women’s doubles pair has been withdrawn after one player tested positive to the mandatory PCR test conducted on Monday. The player has been asked to self-isolate in her hotel room. Her doubles partner has been identified as a close contact and asked to quarantine in a separate hotel room.
An Indian women’s singles player has been withdrawn after a team entourage member tested positive to the mandatory PCR test. The singles player was identified as a close contact of the entourage member and as a result the player has been withdrawn from the tournament. She is required to quarantine in the hotel. The team entourage member has been asked to self-isolate in a separate hotel room.
The next player on the reserve list, Ira Sharma (IND) has been promoted into the women’s singles main draw.
Player withdrawals are as follows:
- 2 x women’s doubles players (INA)
- 1 x women’s singles player (IND)
Testing protocols continue to be implemented by the French health authorities, the French Badminton Federation (FFBAD) and the BWF to ensure the health and safety of all participants.
The qualifying draw and first round men’s singles matches commenced today.
NB: French law prohibits BWF from naming the withdrawn players due to privacy concerns.
