Paralympic gold medallist Cheah Liek Hou is not taking things for granted despite extending his unbeaten run over the weekend at the 4 Nations Para Badminton International.
In the competition in Dublin, Ireland, Cheah beat Taiyo Imai of Japan 21-17 21-16 to pick up the SU5 men’s singles title – his 11th in a row – to keep his winning run from 2019 going.
He also added the SL3-SL4-SU5 men’s doubles title with Mohamad Faris Ahmad Azri after topping the group with three straight games victories.
The 34-year-old’s mind is already on his next task – the Asean Para Games in Surakarta, Indonesia starting on 30 July.
“It will be a big challenge because Dheva Anrimusthi, who I was up against in the Paralympic final is competing. He has the home advantage,” Cheah, who overcame the Indonesian to become badminton’s first ever Paralympic gold medallist last year, told Bernama.
“I hope there will be no injuries before we go there and in Indonesia.”
Also a double winner in Dublin was fellow Tokyo 2020 champion Lucas Mazur, who defeated German Marcel Adam 21-14 21-10 and combined with Faustine Noel to take the SL3-SU5 mixed doubles title.
Japanese star Daiki Kajiwara continued his WH2 dominance, lifting his sixth straight men’s singles title this year after opponent Ho Yuen Chan retired while trailing 21-9 11-6.
The next event on the calendar is the Thailand Para Badminton International 2022 from 16-20 August.
