Participating teams have arrived in Kuala Lumpur for the ANOC World Beach Games Asian Qualifier that begins Friday and spent time on the courts acclimatising to conditions. The qualifier takes place at the Beach Soccer Ground, Presint 4, Putrajaya from 23-25 June.
China, Hong Kong China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand will compete in the mixed team relay and men’s and women’s triples (Mongolia, originally scheduled to participate, have withdrawn). Among the well-known figures during the training sessions was Olympic and world champion Cai Yun, who was seen instructing his young team.
Several international badminton players have confirmed their participation, including Wong Wing Ki Vincent and Chan Tsz Ka (Hong Kong China), Reony Mainaky, Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky, Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani and Marsheilla Gischa Islami (Indonesia) and Siti Nurshuhaini, Joanne Quay and Yap Cheng Wen (Malaysia).
Teams getting a feel of the conditions.
In the mixed team relay, China, Indonesia and Thailand are in Group A, while Korea, Malaysia and Hong Kong China are in Group B. The top two teams of each group make the semifinals. The opening tie on Friday will feature second seeds Korea versus Hong Kong China at 3pm local time, followed by the Group A tie between top seeds China and Thailand at 4.10pm local time. All the group ties will be completed on Friday; the semifinals, finals and third place playoff will be held on Saturday, starting 5.30pm local time.
The triples competition will start after the conclusion of the team relay, and will be completed on Sunday 25 June. The winner of each triples event will obtain one quota place (three athletes) for the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games in Bali in August.
Indonesia as hosts and China, Korea and Malaysia are already qualified based on the World Team Rankings.
In the Mixed Team Relay, top seeds China, Indonesia and Thailand are in Group A, while second seeds Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong China and Mongolia are in Group B. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals. The Men’s and Women’s Triples will start after the conclusion of the Mixed Team Relay.
Attendance is open to the public. There will be live music, food and beverage stalls.
AirBadminton at ANOC World Beach Games
AirBadminton at Bali 2023 will feature 72 athletes (36 men and 36 women) across four medal events: men’s triples, women’s triples, mixed doubles, and the mixed team relay.

In the mixed team relay, each tie consists of five matches: women’s doubles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles, one triples (XT1) consisting of one female and two male players; and another triples (XT2) of one male and two female players.
The first match will be played until one team reaches 16 points; the corresponding matches begin from the score of the previous match, until a team in the fifth match reaches 80 points.
In the individual men’s and women’s doubles and triples, a match is played for the best of five games, with a game won by the side scoring 11 points.
