Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting made an initial mark, but Korea’s reigning world champions Seo Seung Jae and Kang Min Hyuk rallied back to defeat world No.1s Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto in a tense three-game match. The surprise of the day came when Lee Yun Gyu defeated Jonatan Christie 21-15 21-16. Men’s pair Kim Won Ho/Na Sung Seung sealed Indonesia’s fate with a straight games victory over Daniel Marthin/Leo Rolly Carnando.
China’s dominance in the Men’s Team continued with their victory over Chinese Taipei setting up a clash with Japan in the next round.
Japan, after facing stiff competition from Hong Kong China, emerged victorious.
In the Women’s Team, home favouritesbChina soared to a resounding 3-0 victory over Indonesia, igniting the crowd’s jubilation. Their formidable performance also set up a semifinal clash with Japan, who overcame a resilient Chinese Taipei squad 3-1.
Thailand meanwhile, showcased their prowess by overcoming India 3-0 in a gripping contest.
Busanan Ongbamrungphan, returning from a lengthy injury hiatus, sealed the pivotal victory over Ashmita Chaliha 21-9 21-16 in 44 minutes. Her triumphant comeback fuelled Thai hopes as they advanced to face Korea, who dispatched Maldives with a commanding 3-0 victory of their own.
